Paper weight is the experiential ladder. 90gsm reads light and unpretentious – the proper-memoir feel. 130gsm has the satisfying weight of a bookshop hardback. 150gsm is what fine-art editions are made with. The difference is felt before it is read about.

Life Story
Perfect bound softcover
A clean, classic memoir softcover. Pages are glued cleanly into a printed cover for a flexible, lightweight book that reads beautifully. The proper-memoir aesthetic, without the hardback weight.
Memoir
Casebound hardback
Pages are bound to a rigid board cover with a printed wrap. The satisfying weight of a bookshop hardback. Designed to be opened many times over many decades.
Heirloom
Smyth Sewn hardback
Pages are sewn together with linen thread before the cover is attached. This is how archival books are made – fine-art editions, family Bibles, books that get handed down. It lasts.

Most books today are glued, not sewn. Smyth Sewn binding is slower, costs more, and produces a book that lies flat when open, opens cleanly without the spine cracking, and survives being handed down. We chose it for Heirloom because Heirloom is the tier built to be on a shelf in 2075. The thread you cannot see is the part that does the work.
